Dershing:
The Last Dragons
As you grow, we slowly die out.
When we're gone the world will be yours, and to you we'll be but a memory, a legend.

A warrior woman, a self-styled mouse wizard, a shy sculptor, a dragon king, a genius mind that sinks into madness.
They are the protagonists of an amazing tale that spans over one thousand years.
The world of Oma has long been ruled by dragons, who are now going extinct because of a disease that prevents them from having children.
When the last surviving dragons discover they can breed with some human women called dershing, everything changes. But not everyone will accept that change.
Is it going to be the beginning of a new species... or the beginning of the end?

Dershing is a truly compelling book, very much articulated in its structure, and masterfully illustrated, too.

The Last Dershing
I won't be an instrument no more. Not to Neebia, not to the High Dragons. Never again.
Ros Mer, the last surviving dershing, is about to marry prince Clayblood and grant a future to the last dragons. When that future, along with all of her hopes, are taken from her by Neebia, Ros will find the strength to try the impossible: form an alliance of outcasts to challenge the Silver Dragon.

In this book, too, Cencini displays true literary talent. The illustrations of Rita Micozzi add a touch of art to a story that mixes poetry and scenario in a compelling cinematic storytelling.
Although more linear in nature than The Last Dragons, the plot has an amazing pace, and many revelations turn the story upside down. I really enjoyed the main character Ros, who manages to become a lot more than your round-of-the-mill predestined warrior girl, and despite her vulnerability she manages to be reborn.
